What is the Coalition for Women of Color?
Created in the spring of 2020, the Coalition for Women of Color (CWC) celebrates the diversity in our chapters and acts as a vehicle to unify and support our sorority women of color and allies.
The CWC began in January of 2020 with an idea by its Director, Simone Brooks, past chapter president of Alpha Gamma Delta. Simone wanted to create the CWC because she believed it was time for us to start recognizing, honoring, and celebrating the hard work of the people and activists that worked to give women of color the opportunities to occupy spaces like the Panhellenic community. With the support of the 2019 – 20 Panhellenic President, Neasa Murphy, Simone was able to bring together a founding group of women to start this amazing new initiative.
Mission Statement
This Coalition will seek to empower ALL women of color, within our Panhellenic community by fostering awareness of the diverse identities that make up our sisterhood and the issues and needs affecting women of color at Rutgers and in the broader world. The coalition has a mission to continue growing and developing our Panhellenic community to be equipped and invested to go beyond acts of acceptance, but engage in a space of experiences, allyship, and unity.
