Academic Eligibility:

Many organizations have a higher academic requirement then those listed here, so be sure to ask about individual sorority expectations.  At a minimum, in order to be eligible for membership a student must:

  • Successfully complete at least twelve (12) credits at Rutgers University-New Brunswick (including E credits, excluding AP credits).
  • Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
  • Be enrolled as a full-time (12 credits), undergraduate student at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

First-Year Students (regardless of the number of credits they are bringing with them from high school) may not join until the start of their second semester. First Year students are encouraged to attend recruitment events during the fall semester to have a better understanding of our organizations and prepare for spring recruitment.

Upper-class Students (sophomores, juniors, seniors) may join at any time.

Transfer Students (those in their first semester at RU) may join at any time.  We will only use academic information from your previous institution to determine your eligibility to join during your first semester at Rutgers.  Once you have a Rutgers GPA we will ONLY use that academic information.  Your previous institution’s GPA and RU GPA will NOT be averaged to determine your eligibility.  If you have any questions about your eligibility, please email vojta@echo.rutgers.edu

Registration:

All students who plan on participating in recruitment must register with OFSA before accepting an invitation to join. Registration gives us your permission to share your academic record and contact info with chapters. This permission is only good for one semester.  If you registered in one semester but did not join, you need to register AGAIN the next semester.

Are you a Transfer who pledged an NPC sorority at your previous institution?

If you pledged, but were never initiated, you can join any of our organizations during your first semester at RU.

If you were initiated into an NPC sorority, you cannot pledge or be initiated into a different NPC organization. We are happy to help you find other ways to be involved on campus or direct you to a local alumnae club or chapter. Please contact OFSA for assistance ofsa@echo.rutgers.edu.

If your organization has a chapter at Rutgers you can usually affiliate with it rather quickly. Typically, there is paperwork you complete with your inter/national headquarters to transfer membership from your “old” chapter to Rutgers. Contact OFSA and we’ll connect you with the Chapter Advisor and President.
